Emma Leard grew up in Vancouver BC and started taking drum lessons at the age of 12. That same year, she found herself profoundly affected by Eminem’s Mockingbird. She has always found herself to be deeply impacted by films, especially when they center around music. She was shy, never followed the crowd, and had a difficult time expressing herself, only starting to write songs in her late teens.

For her first EP, ‘You can always look Back,’ EmmaJane was inspired by a tweet that Cher shared where she urged everyone to go search for their inner child. Her work intertwines themes of friendship, intergenerational relationships, loss and introspection. In the first half of 2023 you could find her making music videos, then in the latter half she was co-creating two short films:

Quicksand revolves around Rowan Craddock as she gets lost in her own mind while she tries to write – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY96fr8ef78
