The debut EP from the George Collins Band, It’s Been a Long Time, and its follow-up, Songs for Grown-ups, are collections of personal, heartfelt songs brimming with literate and insightful narratives and boasting more sharp hooks than a tackle box.
Collins’s songwriting hits that sweet spot where art and craft intersect. His Timeless Americana Rock recalls masterful tunesmiths like the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Dire Straits, Elvis Costello, Counting Crows, Van Morrison and Wilco, among others.
His older siblings and cousins turned him on to music at a very young age, and he received his first guitar at age four. Collins started writing songs immediately, and pursued both guitar and piano through his youth, taking lessons in a variety of styles while playing in bands and fine-tuning his songwriting.
During his university years and thereafter, Collins supported himself by performing as a solo act in pubs around Charlottesville, VA, where he became well-known on the vibrant local music scene. He also played in an eleven-piece Earth, Wind & Fire-esque band called Common Knowledge which included Carter Beauford and the late LeRoi Moore. Beauford and Moore later became founding members of The Dave Matthews Band.
“While backstage with Carter and Dave during their most recent concert in Prague, I joked that I was in The Dave Matthews Band even before Dave Matthews,” Collins says with a good-natured laugh. “They both burst out laughing, and Dave clicked his beer bottle to mine and said, ‘If anyone ever asks me about that, I will back you up one hundred percent!’”
In addition to performing live and writing, recording, releasing and promoting his new music, Collins is actively engaged in the world of sync licensing. A graduate of The Art of the Song Pitch and current member of programs such as Sync Club, Elite Music Coaching, Sync Titan, Sync School and Music In Ads, he meets regularly with Music Supervisors and Sync Agents to understand their needs and pitch his songs for their projects.
A novelist and screenwriter whose scripts have been recognized in many prestigious festivals and competitions, Collins has worked with Hollywood producers and directors to bring his stories to life and appreciates the unique difficulties and pressures of the modern entertainment business.
With a background in both law and business as well as music and film, Collins understands the meaning of tight deadlines and the importance of impeccable back-end administration and flawless execution.
