After 25 years at Warner Brothers Records, Wendy Griffiths joined BMG in 2011. As head of the BMG Chrysalis US Marketing and Licensing Departments, Ms. Griffiths oversees the continuing formation of a formidable team assembled from six different publishing companies and well-respected music supervisors. She manages marketing, sync, and licensing efforts for all new clients (over 130 in 2013 alone), and a catalog that now includes over 1.2 million assets (fueled in part by acquisitions including Virgin, Mute, Sanctuary and, most recently, Primary Wave), including Kurt Cobain, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Yusuf, Roy Orbison, Bruno Mars, Will.i.am, John Legend, and others .
In an effort to open up new revenue streams, Ms. Griffiths’ department initiated the repurposing of music from audio/video clients (Weinstein, Icon, NFL Films, etc.) for use in new placements, and she presided over the expansion of a newly-concerted effort to exploit opportunities with regard to alternate uses for catalog (remixes/etc.), as was the case recently with songs from Johnny Cash, Iggy Pop, Blondie, etc., which has contributed in part to the department’s double-digit growth in 2013.
