Stephanie Morton-Small
I am a lyricist-songwriter and have a catalogue of unreleased songs written (as lyrics) as well as released songs through collaboration with singer-songwriters.
My songs arc themes of love, sex, female empowerment, self-worth, loss, finding oneself, self-realisation, independence, relationships, home and friendship and generally fall into genres of soul, R&B and pop.
I love to write lyrics with strong titles and hooks which are rich in metaphors evoking visual imagery, emotional journeys and at times humour, which are empowered with a sense of life experience. My songs are perhaps a nod to songwriters I so deeply admire – Amy Winehouse, Beyoncé, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen.
I grew up in England and lived around the world before settling in Topanga Canyon, California. I write songs from a deep source of raw personal experiences and from the convergence of insight and empathy which so often enables me to be an emotional conduit for writing the stories of others.
