Keynote V: Sonic Branding: Why Every Brand Needs a Music Strategy and Music Curation – A Conversation with Mike Boris
Many times, more than any of us would like, music is an afterthought when it comes to branding and ads. In fact, many music decisions are made for an ad, or for a brand, after the rest of the creative work has been carefully thought out. Worse, in a good portion of these ads, there is no music supervisor, or a thought though put into how the music fits the brand’s audience, its image, its products or its messaging. As a result of this approach, the usage of music isn’t properly optimised for messaging or the brand. We need to change this. It’s shown by empirical data that the right thinking around music and the right music for the right brand or ads lift’s the ad’s effectiveness and creative quality, and the perception of the brand in the minds of it’s customers. Today, we’ll talk with the Award-winning music supervisor, producer and sonic branding strategist Mike Boris about the importance of creative and practical thinking around music as it relates to products and brands and why every brand should know what they sound like and have a sonic branding strategy.
3:00 PM – 3:45 PM
Keynote VI: Creating a Successful Music House: – A Conversation with Bryan Hinkley

In this conversation, we’ll get into Bryan’s work, from a creative and business point of view, how he works with brands, what his process is, his collaborators and ways that musicians and rights holders can learn from his work they can employ into their own practice.

Our final conversation today is with a musician, branding and advertising executive and educator who’s responsible for the creation and licensing of over 10,000 songs for advertising and brands through his career. Joshua Rabinowitz started his journey in ads and brands as a working musician writing and making jingles to running thematic departments of two of the industry’s biggest agencies, Young and Rubicam and Grey. Today, as the founder of his own agency, Brooklyn Music Experience, he advises and assists major brands like Volvo, The NFL, Coca-Cola, Nike, AT&T, Proctor and Gamble and many others on their musical strategy and licensing for their ads and brands. Beyond this, he’s a professor at Berklee, The New School, and co-instructs a Music and Ads Course with Sync Summit Founder, Mark Frieser.
